The Steve Irwin forms part of the fleet out on mission Zero Tolerance. Operation Zero Tolerance is Sea Shepherds' ninth mission in the Southern Ocean to protect the lives of whales from illegal hunting.
With four ships and more than 100 international crew representing 23 nations to defend the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, this fleet is the strongest to date. Operation Zero Tolerance will be Sea Shepherd’s best-equipped and most effective campaign to date. "It will be a defining moment in Sea Shepherd’s history; we have no tolerance for whale poachers. Our objective this year is 100%. We are going to try and intercept them as quickly as possible, and try to make this the first year they get zero kills,” said Jeff Hansen, Sea Shepherd’s Australian Director.
The MV Steve Irwin is a 59.5 metre (195 ft) ship owned by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. It was bought by the society in 2005 and is used in direct action campaigns for marine conservation and law enforcement. Most of its service in the Society's fleet has been spent defending the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary against illegal whaling operations.
The vessel has been registered in the Netherlands as of October 8, 2007, but spends most of its time between and readying for campaigns in the Australian ports of Brisbane, Hobart and (previously) Melbourne.

Sea Shepherd is currently out on its 9th mission in the Arctic Oceans to protect the lives of whales at-risk. HoodLamb is more than proud to support this mission by outfitting the fleet with winterproof HoodLamb wear. Furthermore we try to generate funds through our Sea Shepherd x HoodLamb line. Part of all proceeds are donated directly to the Sea Shepherd Charity. We are very thankful to everyone that promotes and supports Sea Shepherd by wearing our Sea Shepherd x HoodLamb jackets, hoodies & tees. We just received a beautiful Thank-You note from the Bob Barker crew which we'd love to share with you as it's because of your support that we can sponsor, donate and promote the important missions from Sea Shepherd.
Letter from Sea Shepherd
Dear Team at Hemp Hoodlamb,
Thank you for your generous donation of
warm Sea Shepherd gear to our fleet, and a special thanks from the Bob
Barker. Your continued support for Sea Shepherd has not gone unnoticed.
Thank you so much for selling Sea Shepherd gear and raising money for
the cause.
Not only will your contribution provide the crew of
the Bob Barker with the equipment necessary to keep our vessel running
efficiently, it will also makes it possible for us to continue our
efforts to defend, conserve and protect marine ecosystems worldwide.
Since its beginnings in 1977, Sea Shepherd has been a leading force in marine conservation. In the past year, we have saved 768 whales in the Southern Ocean, prevented the slaughter of pilot whales in the Faeroe Islands, documented the dolphin slaughter at The Cove in Taiji, patrolled the Mediterranean for blue fin tuna poachers, set up a satellite tracking system with the capabilities to detect illegal shark finning vessel in the Galapagos and much more. This is only possible because of thoughtful contributions from people like you.
In 2012 we are continuing and expanding our efforts. As you know, the cost of protecting our oceans comes at a price but it's nothing compared to losing our greatest and most vital marine treasures. We hope for your continued support in the future.
Once again, thank you for your generous donation and commitment to protecting our seas.
